Shifting gears

One of the most difficult and challenging things for me to do is switching gears (and I find I must do it continually).  By switching gears I mean finding time in my daily life to work on drawings and to sketch and stay loose and inspired.  I have a day job that keeps me away from home almost 50 hours a week and sometimes seems like its about the farthest from the art world as you could get!  That's not a bad thing and I'm very thankful for it but I find that I must force myself to muster the energy to get into the studio (which is a fancy word for small room in the basement ) a few times a week.  I don't rely on art for making a living but I do envy professional artists who can keep their mind zoned in and inspired constantly.  Just my .02!  :)

Retirement caricature

This is Arnold, a coworker of mine that retired recently.  He was so good to work with and very helpful at times that I wanted to give him a gift for his retirement.  He said he planned to do some fishing near his cabin so I integrated the theme into the drawing.  Good luck Arnold!

This is the finished logo of a local band that was designed using my separate drawings. I would like to hear them play sometime!  Don, the one in the beret is who contacted me to do the drawings and he was a dream to work with, providing good photos and he was always very prompt.
